The exhibition D.I.Y.: Design It Yourself was held to launch our book by the same title (February 18-March 12, 2006). Designed and curated by a team of MICA graduate students and faculty, the exhibition features inspiring examples of independent graphic design and provides opportunities for public interaction. The Pinkard Gallery at MICA is a public hallway space that most students have to walk through at some point during the week. We created an environment that encourages people to stop, look, relax, talk, and work. The show was a popular success on campus, inspiring participation from students from all areas of the school. (It also generated a great deal of pride within the graphic design community, whose members felt that the fine artists finally "got it" regarding what we do). The word around school: "this is cool."
